The Colasanti’s Story
In 1989, Ken Snook, the owner of Snook’s Butcher Shoppe on Duck Lake Road, looked up from his work and saw Ron Colasanti, owner of a unique market just down the road. Colasanti had an idea: Snook should move his butcher shop into the market. The partnership was a brilliant success, and when the Colasantis were ready to move on in 2007, Ken Snook took the helm, expanding Colasanti’s Market to include a grocery, wine and beer shop, deli, and greenhouse. Today, Colasanti’s Market is more than just a place to shop—it’s a beloved community destination that blends old-world charm with modern convenience.
Under Snook’s leadership, Colasanti’s has flourished. What started as a simple butcher shop has grown into a full-service market known for its exceptional service, quality, and consistency. Snook’s passion for tradition and commitment to excellence is evident in every corner of the store, from the in-house butcher shop, where meats are cut, ground, and smoked, to the expansive wine and craft beer selection featuring nearly 3,000 wines and 750 beers. If you’re looking for something special, just ask—the staff will go out of their way to find it.
Colasanti’s isn’t just a market; it’s an experience. Customers come from near and far to explore the unique offerings, enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee, and take in the charming sights, like the elevated train that travels overhead or the colorful murals that celebrate the market’s history. Shoppers can find everything from fresh-baked bread and leafy salads to tempting entrees like lasagna and roasted turkey breast. The market’s commitment to supporting local is clear, with produce sourced from Michigan farms whenever possible and seasonal specialties like Ojai pixie tangerines fresh from California.
The market staff, many of whom have been with the business for years, are dedicated to making every visit memorable. Whether you’re picking up lunch from the deli, choosing fresh flowers from the greenhouse, or seeking catering advice, you’ll find friendly faces and personal service at every turn.
Beyond the grocery aisles, Colasanti’s offers a whimsical journey through its greenhouse filled with tropical plants, squawking parrots, and exotic flowers. Just outside, guests can relax at picnic tables while chickens, peacocks, and even a mini-Statue of Liberty add to the market’s eclectic charm. Attached to the greenhouse is Casa de Amici, a delightful gift shop filled with unique home décor, jewelry, and accessories, creating a shopping experience that feels like a world away.
Ken Snook and his team have taken Colasanti’s Market to the next level, making it not just a place to shop, but a cornerstone of the community. From the warm welcome at the door to the personalized service at the deli counter, Colasanti’s is more than a market—it’s a place where memories are made, traditions are celebrated, and everyone feels right at home.
